Prompt: Everyone has fears that must be overcome. What are some things you used to be afraid of? How did you get over those fears?
When I was younger, one of my biggest fears used to be spiders (arachnophobia). Then, growing up, I learnt to vacuum them. That is the way I have faced my fear (my Mum does use towels and plastic gloves to kill them). But I am still afraid of them, if they are really big and dark and hairy. Why do people be afraid of things so smaller than them?
When I was younger, I also used to be afraid of ghosts. I have never seen one, so far. But I know they exist. I do not hide under my blanket anymore. I just hope I will not see any one in my life. I would be scared for ever. Ever. Or just... have a heart attack.
When I was younger, I was shy and used to be afraid of speaking in front of people (agoraphobia). How did I overcome this fear? I didn't. My heart still beats so fast, my hands still shake and sweat, my voice still trembles a little bit, every time I have to speak in front of people, even if they are my friends. But because I had to do all these oral presentations during my schooling, I have learnt how to look like more comfortable. Even if I am not.
Now that I am not so younger anymore, I have even more fears. I am now afraid of heights (acrophobia); I am afraid of lightning and thunder; I am afraid of being dirty (I wash my hands so many time a day!); I am afraid of not having children someday; and I am afraid of losing people that I love.

wikipedia claims that glossophobia is the fear of public speaking.
ReplyDeleteWow, Flora. You're afraid of a lot of things. My wife is also afraid of bugs and spiders. Most of the time I probably couldn't life up my vacuum cleaner to suck them up. You must be pretty strong. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour fears are very common; I am also afraid of some insects and bugs, and losing our love.
ReplyDeleteYou wash your hands so many time per day~ I think it is a good thing. I need to learn from you. I don't like to wash my hands if the water is so cold> <. I will just touch the water a little bit.
By the way, I like your pictures. Ha
